Coalition Supports Biden Administration’s Clean Water Protections
ANN ARBOR, MICH. (February 8, 2023)—The Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition is reiterating its support for the Biden Administration’s clean water protections for streams and wetlands, set to go in effect in March, which is the subject of a hearing today by the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
“Millions of people in the Great Lakes region and around the country will benefit from these protections for streams and wetlands,” said Laura Rubin, director of the Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition. “The Biden Administration’s clean water protections will help safeguard our drinking water, public health, and Great Lakes. Clean water is a basic need, and with so many of our cities and towns living with unsafe drinking water, now is not the time to cut back on clean water enforcement. We need more – not less – protection for clean water.
“We urge members of Congress, especially those who have long supported the restoration and protection of the Great Lakes and the waters that feed them, to strongly support these essential clean water protections. We cannot allow pollution into small waterways without it affecting the rest of the water we all depend on for our health and recreation. We all know streams and wetlands flow into streams, which flow into small rivers, into bigger rivers, and into lakes, including our Great Lakes, and ultimately the ocean. These protections are vital to helping ensure that every person has access to clean, safe, and affordable drinking water.”
The Biden Administration’s clean water protections go into effect on March 20, 2023.
