In October 2019, the Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition commissioned public opinion research. Conducted by Emma White Research and Belden Russonelo Strategists, the research examined the attitudes of more than 1,700 registered voters in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York, on a range of Great Lakes and clean water issues, including federal funding, water infrastructure, toxic algal blooms and who they trust as messengers on Great Lakes issues. The Coalition is using the research to inform our messages. We are sharing the information in the hopes that Great Lakes and clean water advocates can find value in incorporating the message recommendations into their own work, where they see fit. To that end, we’ve included resources below.
- Poll results, regional: View a slideshow of topline results from the poll and basic message implications.
- Poll results, Michigan: Additional funding from the Michigan Environmental Council provided an oversample in Michigan, providing groups in those states with more robust state-specific data.
- Message guide: Read message guidance on a host of issues.
- Webinar on findings: Watch a webinar with pollsters Emma White and John Russonello as they walk through the data and take questions. (40 minutes).
