Representatives Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.), Grace Napolitano (D-Calif.), and Don Beyer (D-Va.) are circulating a dear colleague letter to encourage other Representatives to sign on to a letter in support of extending the comment deadline for the newly proposed Clean Water Rule. The letter urges the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to recognize the significance of the proposed rollbacks to Clean Water Act protections and extend the deadline for comments. You can read the coalition’s statement on the proposed rule here.

Clean water is a basic need. And with many of our cities and towns living with unsafe drinking water, now is not the time to cut back on clean water enforcement. The public should have more time to submit comments on this proposed rollback in clean water protections, and we urge you to contact your Representative to ask them to sign on to support an extension of the comment deadline.

We would love to have a strong showing of Great Lakes members on this letter – please take the time to call your Representative and urge them to join. Members should contact Kate with Mr. Beyer at or Ryan with Mr. DeFazio at to sign on. The deadline to join is January 15. The full text of the letter can be found here.
