Here is an exmaple of a photo you could submit to the Great Lakes Story & Photo Contest.
Marc Smith of the National Wildlife Federation is featured in this photo with a Steelhead taken on the Grand River, Ohio – just east of Cleveland and 10 miles from the famous Cuyahoga River – which caught on fire 30 years ago – pre- Clean Water Act. Steelhead are great indicator species that need especially clean and cold water to spawn. This is a direct result of the success of the passage of the Clean Water Act.
Marc is an employee of the National Wildlife Federation and is ineligible for any of our cool prizes (sorry Marc!).
However, we want to hear from you!

NOW THAT’S A FISH !
IT LOOKS LIKE A WONDERFUL AND FUN DAY FOR FISHING.
NOW THIS IS WHAT WE WANT OUR GREAT LAKES AND WATER WAYS TO LOOK LIKE. COOL,CLEAN,FRESH WATER FOR US AND THE WILDLIFE, AHHH. CLEAN ENOUGH TO DRINK AND PLAY IN. THIS IS HOW I REMEMBER THE STREAMS WHEN I WAS A KID. IF WE ALL WORK TOGETHER MAYBE WE CAN REVERSE ALL OF OUR CARELESSNESS OVER THE YEARS AND REALLY TRY THIS TIME TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE WORLD AROUND US. NOT SELL OUR FRESH WATER! IT IS ALL WE HAVE, I’LL SAY IT AGAIN JUST IN CASE YOU DIDN’T HEAR YOURSELF READING. NOT SELL OUR FRESH WATER, IT IS ALL WE HAVE! SO WE NEED TO KEEP IT, AND SAVE IT AND MAKE SURE IT IS CLEAN, AND PRESERVE IT FOR THE FUTURE. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS FOR US, ALWAYS BE PREPARED SAVE THIS EARTH FOR ALL OF THE GENERATIONS TO COME NOT JUST THE NEXT ONE. BETTER YET, TEACH EACH GENERATION HOW TO SAVE OUR PRECIOUS FRESH WATER FOR THE GENERATIONS TO COME AFTER THEIRS.
