Great Lakes Champ David Obey (D-Wisc) is in his home district this week. While visiting a Ballast Water Treatment Center on Lake Superior, Obey warned that invasives are a threat to our economy and way of life.
“Unless we can solve the threat of invasive species there will be more and more pressure to shut down commerce on the Great Lakes,” Obey said, according to Northland’s News Center.
Invasive species do not recognize state or national boundaries,” said Obey, “we need a comprehensive and unified response to this common threat. We simply can’t afford the risk of losing shipping in the Great Lakes because we are unable solve the invasive species problem.”
Amen. Lets get some thoughtful ballast legislation enacted this year!
