Important lake trout hatchery is back in business

The Allegheny National Fish Hatchery is back in service, seven years after a fish virus and crumbling infrastructure forced the facility to close. The renovated facility, which can produce up to 1 million lake trout annually, will bolster efforts to restore self-sustaining lake trout populations in Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative provided a portion of the funding for the $1.7 million project. Read more here.
