Healing Our Waters® – Great Lakes Coalition Restoration Project Inventory

The Great Lakes Restoration Project Inventory is a compilation of examples of on-the-ground restoration projects throughout the Great Lakes Basin. The projects in the inventory illustrate important restoration work that can be accomplished with funding from key federal programs that address the Great Lakes. The project inventory will help the Healing Our Waters® (HOW) Coalition demonstrate to Congress the significant need for federal funding to help restore the Great Lakes.

Examples of projects include protecting and restoring wetlands, cleaning up toxic sediments, controlling urban runoff, and other actions that will improve the health of the Great Lakes Basin. To date, all projects in the inventory fall under one or more of the top priorities identified in the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration Strategy.

It is important to note that projects in the inventory are simply examples of the types of on-the-ground restoration work that could be accomplished if Congress authorizes and appropriates funding at appropriate levels to address the recommendations in the GLRC Plan. The project list will NOT be used to rank or prioritize projects nor will it be used as a “report card” to grade restoration progress in the states.

The HOW Coalition will continue to add projects to the inventory throughout the spring and summer of 2007 and welcomes all suggestions on possible project submittals.
