The US Senate Environment and Public Works Committee worked late into the night passing numerous important water bills including the Clean Water Restoration Act and a significant increase for the Great Lakes Legacy Act. But they also passed two smaller bills that mean a lot to Great Lakers – the BEACH Act re-authorization (S.878),and the Sewer Overflow Community Right to Know Act (S. 937).
The Beach Act enhances a monitoring program by requiring faster water quality tests and identifying and re-mediating sources of beach pollution.
The Sewer Overflow Community Right to Know Act lets the public know (in a timely manner) when there has been a sewage overflow.
